Last year I had the pleasure of heading up Yeppon way to The Haven at Emu Park for Mindy & Lochie’s wedding.

This was an unconventional wedding, to say the least! Fun was the keyword of the day. I knew I was in for something special when I got to Mindy’s room where she was getting ready, listening to the soundtrack from all the big Disney cartoons.

Unconventional Wedding

Most weddings follow along the lines of:

  1. Bride & Groom preparation
  2. Ceremony
  3. Family photos
  4. Formal photos
  5. Reception starts
  6. Cake Cutting
  7. First Dance
  8. Party into the night

Nope. Not this one!

These guys didn’t want to leave their guest straight after the ceremony. So we flipped things and brought the formal photos up the list and did them before the ceremony. And I have to say it was a nice change. It worked well with this amazing venue, with what has to be some of the best views in central Queensland. It also allowed me to do a “first look” which isn’t very common in Australia.

The Haven

This was my first time shooting at this location. I touched on the views, but they really are something! Overlooking Keppel Bay, this is one of the best-situated wedding venues in all of Central Queensland. With the sea behind the wedding party during the ceremony to the reception areas with the Queenslander style verandah where you can catch the last light of the day and the coll sea breeze. The beach is just a short walk away. And to top it off it has on-site accommodation for you and your guests.
