A couple weeks ago I was very privileged to be able to work with an amazing wedding photographer in Hervey Bay, Mary Wheatley of Mary Wheatley Photography as her second shooter/assistant/lighting assistant.

It was a simply stunning Autumn day in Burrum Heads, not far north of Hervey Bay. Dan & Ash are my type of couple. So laid back and easy going. They certainly did not let the enormity of the day swallow them up. A wonderful mix of family and friends enjoyed a relaxing and joyous time together, celebrating their union at the beach. Dan arrived on a motorbike, Ash by horse-drawn carriage. They definitely put their marks on the day, making it all their own. Afterwards, their property was beautifully decorated, creating a wonderful atmosphere matching the day’s celebrations. Guests could choose to celebrate by the fire under the stars or under the marquee.

Learning Opportunity

For me personally, I was able to work with an amazing, established wedding photographer. Mary asked me to take opportunities to get creative, which I certainly did try to do. In between the busy periods, I did my fair share of observing and learning. In particular,I took away how Mary was able to engage with her subjects and make everyone feel at ease in front of the camera.

Please head on over to Mary’s website and check out her blog and some more photos from this wedding.
